The purpose of the Oslo to Stavanger Viking Rally is to show that electric vehicles can travel the 586 kilometres within a 3 day time limit. However, the Micro-Vett Electric Fiorino shocked the competition by completing the race in just 12 hours and 42 minutes!
The 24th Electric Symposium (EVS24) started out with 30 vehicles. The purpose of the rally is not to drive the fastest but to prove that electric vehicles are a viable alternative to the internal combustion engine. While the others took 3 days to complete the distance the Micro-Vett and GO Green Holdings electric Fiorino in one sixth of the time.
The secret to Mico-Vett's success was the special fast-charging Lithium batteries. After 200 kilometres the battery requires a 25 minute recharge at 250Amp or a 40 minute recharge at 125Amp. The special technology used in the race is not widely available yet but it proves that it is possible to travel long distance using electric vehicles.
